FD Calculator
Estimate the maturity value and interest on a fixed deposit with quarterly compounding.
A fixed deposit locks a lump sum away for a set term in return for a guaranteed interest rate. This calculator estimates what your deposit will be worth at maturity and how much of that is interest, based on the amount you deposit, the annual rate, and the number of years. It assumes interest is compounded quarterly, which is the schedule many banks use for fixed deposits. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing you enter leaves the page.
The maturity formula
Maturity value uses the compound interest formula with the rate compounded four times a year:
A = P × (1 + r ÷ 4)^(4 × t)
Here P is the deposit, r is the annual rate as a decimal, and t is the term in years. For a $10,000 deposit at 6% for 5 years, that's 10,000 × (1 + 0.015)²⁰ ≈ $13,468.55, so you'd earn about $3,469 in interest. The interest shown is simply the maturity value minus the amount you put in.
Why the compounding schedule matters
This tool fixes compounding at quarterly, so a bank that compounds monthly, half-yearly, or annually will produce a slightly different figure for the same headline rate — more frequent compounding earns a little more. The result here is an estimate before tax; interest on fixed deposits is often taxable, and early withdrawal usually carries a penalty or a reduced rate. Always check the exact terms and the compounding basis your bank quotes.
Frequently Asked Questions
What compounding frequency does this use?
It compounds quarterly — four times a year — which is common for fixed deposits. If your bank compounds monthly or annually instead, the maturity value will differ slightly from the figure shown.
Is the interest shown before or after tax?
Before tax. Fixed-deposit interest is often taxable, so your actual take-home return may be lower depending on where you live and your tax situation.
Is this financial advice?
No. It is an information and planning tool, not financial advice. Rates, tax treatment, and early-withdrawal rules vary by bank and country, so confirm the details before depositing.
Do you store what I enter?
No. The calculation happens entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded or saved.
