SIP Calculator
Estimate the future value of a monthly systematic investment plan.
A systematic investment plan, or SIP, is the habit of investing a fixed amount every month rather than a single lump sum. This calculator estimates what those regular contributions could grow to over time, given an expected annual rate of return. It separates the total into the amount you actually invested and the growth on top, so you can see the effect of investing steadily. It all runs in your browser, and your figures are never sent anywhere.
The formula behind it
The calculator treats each monthly contribution as part of an annuity that compounds at a monthly rate r (the annual return divided by twelve) over n months:
FV = P × [((1 + r)ⁿ − 1) ÷ r] × (1 + r)
For a $500 monthly investment at a 12% expected annual return over 10 years, that projects to about $116,000. You would have invested $60,000 of your own money, with the remaining ~$56,000 coming from compounded growth. The final multiplication by (1 + r) reflects contributions being made at the start of each month.
What the estimate can and can't tell you
The projection assumes a constant rate of return every month, which real markets never deliver — actual returns rise and fall, and a poor sequence of early years changes the outcome. It also shows figures before any fees, taxes, or inflation. The genuine value of a SIP is less about hitting an exact number and more about the discipline of investing regularly and giving compounding time to work. Treat the result as an illustration for comparing contribution levels and time horizons.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a SIP guarantee the projected amount?
No. The calculator assumes a steady return, but market-linked investments fluctuate and can lose value. The figure is an illustration, not a guaranteed outcome.
Why does investing longer help so much?
Because growth compounds on a larger and larger base. Contributions made early have the most time to grow, so extending the horizon usually raises the growth portion far more than the invested portion.
Is this financial advice?
No. It is an information and planning tool only. Whether a particular investment suits you depends on your goals and risk tolerance; consider a qualified adviser before investing.
Do you store what I enter?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is uploaded or saved.
