Type a numerator on top and a denominator underneath, and this tool shows the fraction as a decimal and as a percentage the moment you change either number. A lookup chart of the common sixteenths and other everyday fractions sits below the result. Everything happens in your browser, with nothing sent anywhere.

How it is calculated

A fraction is simply a division, so the decimal is the top number divided by the bottom one:

Decimal = numerator ÷ denominator

The percentage is that decimal multiplied by 100 and rounded to two places. For example, 1/16 gives 1 ÷ 16 = 0.0625, shown as 6.25%. A three-quarter measurement, 3/4, becomes 0.75 or 75%.

Rounding and long decimals

Fractions that divide cleanly, like the sixteenths used in measuring, show their exact value. When a fraction produces a long or repeating decimal, the display trims it to about ten places and drops trailing zeros so the answer stays readable rather than running on forever. The percentage line is always rounded to two decimal places. If the denominator is left at zero the tool flags it, because dividing by zero has no answer.

The 1/16 reference chart

The chart underneath lists the conversions people reach for most, from 1/16 (0.0625) up through 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4, plus the fine 1/64 (0.0156). These are handy at a workbench or when reading a tape measure, where inches are split into sixteenths. The calculator above handles any other fraction you need.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it handle improper fractions like 9/4?

Yes. Any numerator and denominator work, so 9/4 returns 2.25, or 225%.

Why is a long decimal cut short?

Repeating or very long results are trimmed to around ten places with trailing zeros removed, so the answer stays easy to read.

What happens if the denominator is zero?

The tool shows an error, because a fraction cannot be divided by zero.

Does this calculator store my data?

No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded or saved.
